bio

Stephan Anstey is the founder of ShakespearesMonkeys.com and Shakespeare's Monkey Revue, both venues primarily for poetry and poets. He is an artist focused on spiritual exploration and the celebration of the individual. His work explores themes of love, sex, politics, religion and mankind's endless war against an increasingly invasive society. Anstey's art is primarily a combination of poetry and digital collage, some of which is on display at his studio on Western Avenue in Lowell. He lives an idyllic life in the beautiful and historic mill city of Lowell, Massachusetts with his beautiful and beloved bride Ellen and their talented and wonderful children, Emily and Cameron.

Footfall on a Winter Scene

tell me how the day is framed
by clouds and snow and broken trees
how the girls wear trousers and run
around the cold cracked asphalt singing
about the little boys in knee-less dungarees

tell me how the night is held up
by magnets to the idea of a refrigerator
how the grandmother stares vacantly and sighs
whenever the little boy spins around in snoveralls
until he falls down to the ground waving arms and legs
to reveal an angel
