bio

David W. Rushing has been published in 80 journals and was nominated for a 2003 Pushcart Prize.
Meanwhile, he sits around writing poetry and prose, while waiting to be discovered as the obvious heir apparent to Charles Bukowski. Unfortunately, according to David, there are three million other guys in this town who are doing the same damn thing.

Purgatory

One hundred degrees
and the foothills of Azusa
continue to burn
as the first day of autumn
falls unnoticed
since the seasons fled L.A.
long ago.

And though night
and insomnia
drop down soon like a shroud,
the sky remains orange
as I pause with worn out shoes
and empty pockets to watch
the foothills of Azusa

continue to burn.
