    Deborah P. Kolodji, a native Californian, is primarily interested in short poetry forms. A member of the Haiku Society of America, the Science Fiction Poetry Association, and the Southern California Haiku Study Group, her work has appeared in Strange Horizons, Modern Haiku, Frogpond, Eclectica, Gin Bender Poetry Review, Scrivener's Pen, Kaleidowhirl, Star*Line, Dreams and Nightmares, Scifaikuest, The Heron's Nest, Abyss & Apex, and many other places. Her chapbook by Saki Press, Seaside Moon, is a winner of the Virgil Hutton Haiku Memorial Chapbook Award. She is one of 16 haiku poets selected by Red Moon Press to appear in The New Resonance 4: Emerging Voices in English Language Haiku.

In the Laboratory

bacteria samples
under the microscope

not quite sure what
she's looking for

endless slides of colonies

solutions growing
                   under her nose

still single at forty-five
she washes petri dishes

sharp eyes curious as a grandchild
always searching

and discovers herself
