The boys of summer go to the stadium
in Chavez Ravine wearing favorite
baseball caps and Ts marked like their
bumper sticker and pay fifteen bucks to park
on confiscated land that hard working families
lost to eminent domain.
The Sheriff dragged Aurora Varga from her home
just ahead of the bulldozer.
Go Dodger Blue!
Fans drink twelve dollar watery beer and eat
priceless foot-long Dodger dogs,
stand in long lines for urinals watching
the no-hitter game on a screen,
Content to cheer for the Blue Crew
through another season not well spent.
Was it bad karma that the bums lost?
The Girls of Summer go to Sports Bars
where everyone's a player.
They wear backless tops and plunging
fronts to show off their California gold.
They pretend to be major league fans and
every hit and foul ball makes them scream.
Actually, the only thing they know about Brooklyn
is that no one can buy the bridge
unlike Chavez Ravine, but, L.A. bought the team.
