On the Revocation of College Scholarships |
It was during a men's college basketball tournament
that some members of one school's band taunted
a player on the opposing team from Puerto Rico
with anti-immigrant gibberish,
in full view of the TV cameras,
and their scholarships were revoked soon after
Predictably,
some cried that political correctness
had once again trumped free speech,
ignoring the fact that anyone without
the historical and geographic knowledge
that Puerto Rico is a part of the United States
(no passport or green card needed)
and has been since the Spanish-American War
(1898)
doesn't belong in college in the first place
