In Memory of Leo and Taurus |
Tonight, my ankles disrupt
fireflies courting under Leo
and Taurus. I’d like to think
my life is more than a map set
with patterns. This is what I tell myself
even as past actions cry, “Liar!”
Tonight, I walk through bluebonnets
and bushes of catclaw. Other flowers
wilt at home, arrangements sent
after fights. Tangible apologies.
I take a cigarette from my pocket,
then find I’ve left my lighter behind,
so I pluck a firefly
from tonight. I thrust its glow
against the stick ,which crushes
the bug, its light waxing
grey, then black as the space
between Leo and Taurus.
