Where Rainbows Grow

(Moonstone Beach)

Driftwood, bleached white

by sun and sea,

lies jumbled on the sands…

the bones of a leviathan

they seem…

Sea and sky reflect one another

out to the horizon…

there they blend

forming the bed

where the sun melts

then sleeps.

In mists, high and low,

fragments of prismatic color appear…

undeveloped buds of rainbows

that one day will blossom

in arcs across the heavens…

And on the beach, in stretches

of glistening, multicolored stone,

warmed by the sun,

washed by the sea,

are the seeds

from which rainbows grow.
