bio

art by paradoxius

Lee Mason is a poet who resides in northeast England.
"My poetry has always tried to reflect the darker side of the human condition, especially my own experiences within the British mental health system."

Sectioned

The first time that I pushed those doors aside
and tasted that repressive, sterile air,
I knew that there was nowhere left to hide.

I'd rode the wave but could not beat the tide.
I was too tired to fight, too weak to care
the first time that I pushed those doors aside

and had to swallow much more than my pride,
with each new pill to tackle my despair
I knew that there was nowhere left to hide.

I'd tried self harm and failed at suicide,
Self medicated 'till I wasn't there.
So when I pushed those heavy doors aside,

(expecting to break down), instead I sighed
and sank as deep as hell into a chair,
knowing that there was nowhere left to hide

I sat there, head in hands, but never cried,
hoping that my mind could be repaired.
The first time that I pushed those doors aside
I knew that there was nowhere left to hide.
